It was in 2013 when the missionaries of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) needed a cook in Makurdi, Benue State. Through the recommendation and encouragement of Mrs Comfort Suswam, Titus Atoo accepted the job, even though he had no professional training as a cook.
For two years, he faithfully prepared meals for the missionaries. Yet, deep within his heart, he knew he was called to something greater. He did not want to remain only a cook in the missionaries’ residence. Beyond preparing food in the kitchen, he longed to nourish God’s people at the altar. What began as serving the missionaries at the table gradually became a call to serve the faithful at the Table of the Lord.
Responding to that call, he applied to join the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was admitted for priestly formation. After years of formation, perseverance, and God’s grace, he was ordained a Catholic priest by His Grace, Most Revd Faustin Ambassa Djodo, CICM, Metropolitan Archbishop of Garoua, Cameroon, on 4 July 2026.
Yesterday, 12 July 2026, we gathered at All Saints Parish, Ugba, to celebrate his First Thanksgiving Mass. It was a joyful reminder that God can transform ordinary acts of humble service into an extraordinary vocation.
May the Lord continue to strengthen and sustain Revd Fr Titus Atoo Orjime as he faithfully labours in His vineyard, nourishing God’s people with the Bread of Life.
